Need a Mac FTP Client? Filezilla Disappointing. Cyberduck Works.

When I moved from PC to Mac I was happy to find an OS X version of FileZilla out there. It has always been my favorite open source FTP client. I knew about Cyberduck and Filezilla FTP clienthad installed in Cyberduck FTP Clientfor a non-techie in the past since its interface is almost as simple and non-threatening as it gets (why are we hung up on technology “threatening” people? Wait for the post). But, I like FileZilla’s detailed screens and traditional FTP client layout.

Unfortunately, for those who are switching to a Mac and have used FileZilla client on a PC you will be disappointed. The will is there but the code is weak. FileZilla client is up to v3.x and it still behaves like it’s in beta. I could give you a list of small issues, but take my word for it. Any FTP client on the Mac that won’t allow you to drag and drop from outside the application is behind the times by about 15 years. To make matters worse sometimes FileZilla can hold it together long enough to give you a nice message admitting they can’t do drag and drop yet, but most of the time it just crashes. Sad.

If you need to get work done, download Cyberduck. It’s not as techie, but at least it works.
